Emily Russell {she/her}

MBACP Integrative Therapeutic Counsellor

Hello, I’m Emily, a creative and experienced Integrative Therapeutic Counsellor.

I am a warm, caring and naturally empathic person with a wide range of counselling experience and a background in education, care-work and Fine Art. I consider counselling to be a unique process which can offer you the time, space, safety and support you need to explore any issues which you are facing. I believe that counselling can help you to create positive change within your life. I offer bespoke, therapeutic counselling to people who want to understand and process their experience and circumstances, improve their relationships, enhance their self-awareness and increase their wellbeing.

I am a fully qualified Integrative Therapeutic Counsellor and a Registered Member of the BACP, undertaking regular clinical supervision and CPD training. The counselling which I offer is confidential within professional boundaries. I offer both short-term and longer-term counselling. I work creatively and holistically, primarily by interweaving person-centred theory with elements from intersubjective psychology, attachment theory, transactional analysis and gestalt psychotherapy. The counselling sessions I offer are client-led, meaning that I will value you throughout the process and that we will work together on the things which you feel that you most want/need to work on. Your counselling sessions will move at a pace which suits you and we will work together in a way which feels right for you.

I work with people of all ages, from a wide range of backgrounds and with differing needs and abilities. I work in a nurturing and non-judgemental way, offering counselling which aims to be as inclusive as possible and tailoring my practice to accommodate individual needs, this can include working together using creative and/or kinaesthetic interventions, as well as communicating in different ways. I am adept in working with many different presenting issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-esteem and issues around personal identity, culture, philosophy, lifestyle, employment, sexuality and relationships.

I have significant experience Counselling within Further and Higher Education, working with both young people and adult learners. I am also experienced in offering Workplace Counselling and have further experience as a Placement Mentor for Trainee Counsellors and as a Line-Manager within a busy counselling service. I have particular knowledge around working with people with Autistic Spectrum Conditions and with the families and carers of people with Autistic Spectrum Conditions. I also have experience counselling other carers and families and in counselling the parents of children of all ages (including new and expecting parents). I have further experience in counselling teachers and those working in education, as well in offering meaningful counselling to other counsellors and therapists. I understand the unique challenges faced by those who work and/or study within the creative industries and am proficient in offering counselling to people from all creative disciplines to support them in facing personal and/or professional difficulties.
